“Austin was a 13 year old funny, caring, loving boy that would put everyone first.”
Austin was a 13 year old funny, caring, loving boy that would put everyone first. He was the oldest out of 4 plus his 3 step brothers. When he was 12 he started complaining of leg, knee and foot pain. Dr told us over and over around sep 2018 it’s just growing pains. Then he developed a lump in his neck that the dr just said was a swollen lymph node. Well it never went away neither did the pains he kept saying was growing pains. Oct & Nov. 2018 I rush him to er for bad knee pain they do bloodwork and X-ray everything is normal both times they say except in November they say there might be some type of arthritis so they referred us to a orthopedic. So we go the next day where they just do another X-ray and they just say they have to order a mri because with our insurance (MS Medicad) they have to have a approval first for some reason before they do the mri. So nothing is done with that then. Then in December 2018 his paediatrician finally refers us to the foot specialist only where he just gives him a shot in the foot he said for pain and does a X-ray and says it’s just a dropped arches nothing uncommon just to wear this brace he gave likes hour a day witch just gave Austin more pain. Well December 27, 2018 Austin starts having side pain and hard to breath and has to get rushed to hospital. They do ct scan see something not right with his spline and immediately sends him to a better hospital. Where they immediately start test and we get the diagnosis January 8, 2019 that he has Alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma cancer it’s a rare soft tissue cancer. And it was now all over. All that “growing pain” and lump and that “dropped arch” was a tumor and cancer taking over. Well they started chemo right away and April 2019 it was all gone. Then in June 2019 it all came back again even worse. He passed July 29, 2019.
